Public Education & Outreach

UCP’s knowledge of disability issues has been accruing for more than 60 years. Connecting individuals and families with the resources and services they need helps fulfill UCP's mission of advancing the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with a spectrum of disabilities.

UCP's Public Education & Outreach (PEO) efforts include two primary components:

My Child Without Limits

UCP populates this robust tool for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5. As of mid-2011, the website features Read Speaker, a tool that helps those with reading difficulties, or those on the go, to access the site. The website is also available in Spanish .

My Life Without Limits

UCP’s new partnership with the National Youth Transitions Center has inspired the organization to create a new online resource for people with disabilities, ages 17-30. In this forum, UCP will explore transition issues including employment, housing, exploring higher education, and independent living.

Siblings Initiative

Siblings play a major role in the lives of people with disabilities, but relatively few supports exist for this part of the family. UCP will be developing a comprehensive new online resource, which will be combined with new research and convenings, to bolster this important part of the family.

"UCP affiliates provide key support for families and individuals across the globe during moments of transition in life. We are excited to add significant new national information and networking resources for people with disabilities through our new Public Education & Outreach initiatives and hope that these tools spark a national dialogue about ways we can all help create a life without limits for people with disabilities."
