Return to : Why Support UCP?

Laura's Story

Laura is an inspiring young woman who is determined, despite her disability, to increase her job skills so she can help support herself.

Laura uses a power wheelchair with a head controller to attend a UCP vocational center five days a week. But recently, her head controller broke – she was crushed. She couldn’t get to her training sessions and she couldn’t socialize with her friends. Worst of all, she couldn’t afford to buy a new head controller.

That’s where UCP comes in.

Through The Bellows Fund, a special fund administered by UCP that provides assistance to people with disabilities in financial need, Laura got a new head controller for her power wheelchair and has been able to resume her classes that will provide her the training to one day land her a job. With the help of UCP, Laura was given the opportunity to achieve a life beyond the borders of her disability, a life without limits.

Thanks to generous people like you, UCP is able to help more 176,000 children and adults each and every day through our network of nearly 100 trusted affiliates all over the country. In addition to the Bellows Fund, UCP offers other services, such as My Child Without Limits, an online resource and community for parents, families, and caregivers of children newly diagnosed with a disability or development delay.

But we need your continued support to develop and manage programs that serve the growing population of disabled individuals. For every person like Laura, there are many others who need our services, our support, and our solutions. Please help us reach them.
